Description

Mount Vernon Country Club offers an outstanding 18 hole golfing challenge set in the woodland which was once part of George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate. With an expansive Clubhouse providing an ideal setting for members and their guests to enjoy dining from casual to elegant, and an executive kitchen serving the finest menu, Mount Vernon is an experience as gracious as its heritage.

The Club also provides family recreation with its competition-sized pool, allowing interclub swimming and including a children’s wading area and al fresco patio dining. A full complement of adult social activities, and adult and junior golf programs, with a limit on golf memberships allowing expansive opportunities for member use, make Mount Vernon Country Club one of the finest golf and country club experiences in the northern Virginia area.

Mount Vernon Country Club boasts excellent golfing facilities with its 18-hole championship golf course established in 1961. The course provides four tee selections, from 5,068 to 6,300 yards, to challenge golfers of all skill levels. The course winds its way through original forest of George Washington’s Mount Vernon plantation and is enhanced by the presence of Dogue Creek, a Potomac/Chesapeake tidal tributary which lends a water hazard challenge on 14 of Mount Vernon’s 18 holes.

Extensive course renovations were completed in the late 1990's highlighted by the conversion to bentgrass fairways, expanded irrigation, rebuilt tee complexes and bunkers, and six new greens under the direction of the prestigious course design firm of Ault, Clark & Associates, LTD.

Continuing course improvements include stream bank erosion control, expansion and aesthetic enhancement of ponds and creeks, and further course beautification including a phased conversion of Mount Vernon’s most outstanding course design characteristic, its mature tree population, with varieties and sizes that will maintain the challenge that makes the course unique in Northern Virginia.
